Year after year, spring after spring, families come to me wanting memorable First Holy Communion photos of their children. I wanted to share with you how I normally do these sessions and show some work from previous years.
For these sessions, I always try to find a gorgeous location. I want it to look as heavenly as possible to really do this celebration justice. The children are dressed up in their beautiful white dresses and handsome tuxes. They are so precious! They usually have their bible and rosary with them as well. I take many different types of portraits, some traditional, some of them more childlike and free. I can also split the session and do some outside and some inside my studio. Although for many people, there is a spot in your home that might also work for this. Since I use natural light, I can generally make it work. For one client, we took the photos against a wall in a garage with the garage door open…and it was gorgeous! This client also likes to get a large framed print and line a hallway in her home with each of her children’s first holy communion portraits. I love the sentimentality of that idea. After the session, I make getting those prints on your wall easy by the purchase of a print package. I offer really nice frames with prints included, all ready to be mounted. If it truly helps, I can even come over with a hammer ; )
