Sharing this natural newborn session today with both studio and lifestyle images! I like to say that natural newborn photography is my speciality. I love posed newborn images, but I try to pose in such a way that still registers as natural. Using creams, whites, and neutrals helps me achieve this affect. I also love to unwrap baby some and let them stretch and move and yawn and I can usually capture some really beautiful black and whites this way. Can’t forget those macro details shots either!
This little newborn boy also had a 2 year old big brother who was as cute as can be but didn’t love having his photo taking. You can see how I sort of worked around this, we use toys and stuffed animals to try to get this two year old to interact and engage with the process. I loved moms reaction after I sent her gallery, she said “Omg I love all our photos!! You even managed to make it look like Finn somewhat cooperate lol”.
Her response was so great! It’s definitely not easy working with tiny people who can’t follow directions yes, but I love the challenge and find real satisfactions in creating images that families will cherish.
A little more info about this session for those who are wondering. I took these photos in my clients home, I brought my studio set up to them and set it up in the playroom. This way we were able to achieve the studio and lifestyle look in one session. Since dad loves the posed photos and mom loves the lifestyle images in the home, it was the perfect compromise.
